Building confidence in innovation step by step
Innovation drives every industry forward; the road building and infrastructure industry is no exception. Yet all too often confidence in new construction products and systems lingers, resulting in innovations being slower to catch on and their potential going unutilized. Consider, for example, composite overlays, circular road concrete with increased fraction of recycled or secondary aggregates or innovative asphalt mixtures without bitumen.
Trusted certification based on standards and technical regulations provides certainty to all stakeholders, while innovation by definition does not comply with these reference documents and thus may be perceived as uncertain by stakeholders in the construction industry.
A defined pilot environment can therefor be the key to allow innovative building products and systems to prove themselves step by step and build confidence in the innovation. This insight formed the basis for COPRO – toghether with Procertus, BCCA and SECO – to develop the innovation certificate.
With the innovation attestation, this bridge between innovation and certification becomes concrete. The attestation is a pragmatic intermediate step that allows innovative building products and systems to be deployed faster and with confidence. By also actively monitoring the implementation of pilot projects, valuable knowledge is systematically built up and shared among experts.
As an independent attestation body, COPRO guides producers through this process, organizes the expert group that evaluates the innovative product and organizes the inspections for the innovation certificate. Our many years of experience within certification is a great added value here.
